"Hit The Airs"- Februrary 1, 1997
Written By: Mark Seidenberg and Tom Ruegger
HERO OF THE DAY: Give it up for Shagster!
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Time travel machine
PLOTLINE: (From Kids WB on AOL)
During a Road Rover assault on General Parvo's lair, Parvo is accidentally turned into a simple house cat and is sent back in time BEFORE Professor Shepherd created the Road Rovers. Back in the past, Parvo the Cat is not only taken in by the kindly professor, he is also turned back into Parvo the Man by Shepherd's nefarious business partner, Dr. Otitus. Parvo kidnaps Shepherd's pet dog, Scout, and puts the dog through his own defective Transdogmafier, turning Scout into the uncontrollable Muzzle. Then, Parvo tries to force Shepard to hand over the plans to the Transdogmafier in exchange for his pet. Using Parvo's time machine, the Rovers travel through time to confront Parvo and stop him from destroying Shepherd. Although the Rovers fail to stop Parvo in the past they learn (in the present) that Shag actually saved Shepherd by tipping him off about Parvo's double-crossing ambush with a letter he wrote and sent while he was in the past.
SO, WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY?
- The Master created the transdogmafier
- The Master scouted out the Rovers as "possible candidates" for transdogmafication.
- We infer, and then at the end, know that Scout is Muzzle due to his friendship with the leader of the pack, Hunter.
- That you can travel through time (Cooooool!)
- That the Road Rovers would never have existed, and Shepherd would have been kaputski, if not for Shag sending a letter back through time.
FUNNIEST LINE:
This wasn't one of the more comedic episodes, but it either dealt with making fun of Star Trek or losing the G rating.
KRANKOR'S FAN RATING: 7.7 (t9th out of 13)
MY TAKE: There were only 3 episodes I wasn't particulary crazy about, but this one will fall in the 10 I liked. It was a little confusing but it did an excellent job of explaining the interrelationships of Parvo, the Master, Scout, and Hunter. Sure, Shag saving the Master by sending a letter through time may be archetypal, but it works here.
QUESTIONS RAISED: How did the Master know about the Rovers if they were strays? What happened to Ottius? Who's the best Rover golfer? Did any other Rovers have past histories like Muzzle and Hunter did?
